My Big Mouth!

I finally retired from work at the end of August, it was such a relief as I’d been struggling to deal with shift work and sitting my arthritic bones at a desk for 8 hours at a time.

Those who’ve already finished will know the kind of questions people ask – the daftest one was “How long will it be before you’re bored?”  Bored?  Me?  Never been bored in my life!  And the other that came up quite frequently was “What are you going to do now?”  Well if I’d finished in the summer when I wanted to the answer would have been, go to lots of bike rallies, as it was the answer was – nothing!   Just for a few months you understand, till the novelty wore off (or the rally season started).

So what did I do?  I went to a bike club meeting (as in Dorset Motorcycle Club, not cycling, as far as I’m concerned if it has 2 or 3 wheels it has to have an engine).  Nothing out of the way about that you might say, perfectly normal thing to do.  Yes but it’s my big mouth!  When Bob, who’s kept the club going almost single-handedly the last year or two, announced that because of a job change he wouldn’t be able to do it any more, a couple of people said they would deal with the organizing but they were no good with emails and websites and stuff.

“I can do that” my mouth said.  Honestly, it was nothing to do with me, it said it all by itself!  So I am now the SPOC for the bike club.  SPOC?  – ‘Single Point Of Contact’

Well it’s better than being called an old PRO, isn’t it?
